Another problem that I did have with the remaster were the new recorded voice samples for Jim, which sound terrible in comparison to the original.ġ6 bit ports SNES and The Genesis/ Mega Drive: I would have to give the slight edge to the SNES version of EWJ 2, overall it does look better with a higher colour palette and the audio sounds better too for the most part. Some of the background art still has this weird smudged look to it but the sprites aren't nearly as offensive as the other remaster.Though the mobile version of the game does not have the Sega CD bonus content. Though what I find interesting is that the mobile iOS and Android ports are handled a little better than the XBLA and PSN versions of the game.

The port was done by Gameloft and it shows. but the artwork does suffer from a lot of badly redrawn sprites and a lot of little details seem absent from the original 16 bit game because of the badly redrawn artwork. The SNES version is probably the worst version of the game outside of the GBA port and 8-bit versions as it has so much cut content. I would honestly rank this one to be about is good as the Sega CD port.

The Windows 95 PC port is based on the Sega CD version of the game but with a much larger boost in colours. Earthworm Jim Special Edition on the Sega CD is a lot like the Genesis game but with CD audio, even more voice samples, additional frames of animation, a few extended areas for pre-existing levels, one additional level, and a few new weapons. The genesis version has one additional level, better music and far more sound effects and voice samples than the SNES game. Article taken from than just resolution. I still love the fact that GOG keep classic games alive like this, it's vitally important we don't lose access to some true classics. They worked perfectly, super smooth as expected from a classic title. This sure brought back some memories! For those that never played it, it's a run and gun action platformer that was originally released in 1994, with the sequel releasing in 1995.Īfter testing both, I couldn't find any issues. I actually played the original on the Sega Megadrive at a friends house when I was younger, I remember being mesmerised by it at the time. Naturally, they come with DOSBox pre-configured so playing these classics is easy on Linux. They come as seperate downloads, but each has the GOG installer powered by MojoSetup. They come as part of a bundle " Earthworm Jim 1+2: The Whole Can 'O Worms".Īs usual, our friendly GOG contacts sent over a copy for me to test out. Thanks to the magic of DOSBox, Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 are now available for Linux direct from game store GOG.
